Chicken Tortilla Soup

We know it's not German, but's its too good. A pot seasoned with green pepper, jalapeño, and onion. Pulled Chicken, fire roasted tomato, black beans, and corn. Seasoned with our favorites from South America, and Cilantro. Topped (optional and served on the side) with Sour Cream, Chihuahua Cheese, or Mexican Cheddar Cheese. Served with Tortilla Chips

Hern Chili

My Grandmother (My Mother's Mom), Maw - Maw, used to cook this chili year around. My mother then received the recipe and it became a weekly favorite during the fall an winter months. Ground beef, chili beans, fire roasted tomato, chili seasonings and a dash of salt and pepper. We make ours with corn, because these Benninghofen children like it, but we can leave that out. Served with Oyster Crackers - because that's the way we do it in Hamilton and Cincinnati, Ohio. But those Frito's are pretty good too. Topped (served on side) with Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese.

Nonny's Beef Stew

Our Grandmother, and family Matriarch, whom we affectionately called "Nonny" had this recipe passed down from generations on her side. It was always a special occasion traveling to Hamilton, Ohio knowing this was going to be served. She would occasionally stand at the stove while the small radio played the swing music or jazz from the 40's and 50's and she would hum or "Zhu-Zhu" along. You knew it was going to be a long night around that dining room table when Nonny cooked. Tender pieces of slow-cooked beef simmered with carrots, onions, celery and vegetables in a rich, savory beef broth. Hearty, rustic comfort food made to warm you from the inside out.
